Chapter 55: The Bakemonster
Aisha said with a serious look in her eyes but Kanzaki was taken aback by her words.
Are you serious?
“I know you’re a good scholar, but that’s impossible. The machine is broken. Fix it and tell me again!
When Kanzaki was about to leave, Aisha stopped him. Aisha stops him. What?” Kanzaki turns around and Aisha looks at him with a serious look on her face.
I only have one question for you.
Aisha is walking in a very wiggly manner and when she stops in front of Kanzaki she grabs him by the chest and pulls him close to her.
“Where did you bring that thing from? !”
You brush Aisha’s hand away and sniffle as you straighten the creases in your clothes.
“Ha! What’s with the monster… I’m sober now.
Kanzaki opens the door roughly and leaves the room.
What the hell? What do you want? I’m not going to take any more of your crap!
“Well, of course you don’t believe me. I don’t believe it either.
“Of course! Who would believe such a story?
Then let Mitaka use her magic.
“That’s a huge amount of mana. It’s probably leaking out of him. Then he should be able to use magic on earth.
The door slammed shut and Kanzaki left the room.
The next morning, when Kanzaki returned home, he slept until nearly evening, but finally got up and took a bath.
After relaxing for a while, I went to the dining table to eat the dinner Maika had prepared.
Maika asked me, “What happened yesterday?” and “Did something happen?” but Kanzaki only answered vaguely.
I go to bed that day in agony.
The next morning, I was smoking a cigarette at my desk when Yuma came to work.
He exchanges greetings with Mr. Tanaka and Maika and comes over to us.
Good morning, Mr. President.
Oh, good morning.
Yuma put his luggage in his locker and sat down at his desk. He was chatting happily with Mr. Tanaka next to him.
Kanzaki sat deep in his chair and unfolded the newspaper.
But I can’t get any of it out of my head. I’m not saying I believe what Aisha said, but I am curious.
Kanzaki stands up slowly. –We’ll have to find out.
“Last time, you measured the mana in Aisha’s lab, didn’t you?”
“Oh, yes, I did, but…”
I got a call that you got the results. They found your mana.
“What? Are you sure?”
Yuma’s eyes widened in delight. Tanaka-san, who was sitting next to him, also broke into a smile.
“You did it, Yuma! That’s great. I’m really happy for you.
“I knew it~, I thought it was weird that you didn’t have a mana index.”
Maika came and joined in the joy. It seems everyone was worried about Yuma.
“I’ll go get the detailed results next time, but for now, I’d say there’s nothing to worry about.”
“Well… We don’t know how much mana we have yet.
Well, we’ll find out soon enough. Maika, get that thing ready.
“Oh, yeah. Yeah!”
Maika bends down in front of the safe in the corner of the office and turns the cylinder to unlock it. She opens the door and takes out the small case inside.
The case Maika was given. When she opened the shiny black lid, she found a number of “magic jewels” inside.
They are all ‘blue magic jewels’, sparkling and shining.
“Maika, what is Yuma’s estimated mana index?”
“Hmm, considering the number of demons I’ve killed so far, my mana index is definitely more than 10.”
Kanzaki takes a jewel from the box.
“Yuma, this is a one-carat Iolite gem. It has a mana index of 10. I’ll give it to you to eat.
“What? Are you sure?”
When Yuma was surprised, Mr. Tanaka who was standing next to him explained.
“Yuma, this is one of the company’s benefits.”
“I mean anything that doesn’t come with a paycheck. Especially ‘magic jewels’ since you’ll need them for your work. Feel free to take it.”
That’s what I’m talking about.
Kanzaki urged him to do the same and Yuma said “Thank you.” and took the magic jewel in his hand.
How’s it going?
If Aisha’s device is completely broken, then it’s possible that Yuma has no mana.
If he had no mana at all, he’d just come out in a stool, so I don’t see the problem…
“Oh! My stomach is getting hot.”
“Yes, it’s proof that you’ve successfully captured the magical gem. That’s good news, Yuma.”
Mr. Tanaka was as happy as if it were his own.
Maika breathes a sigh of relief. However, only Kanzaki is overcome with an inexpressible sense of anxiety.
It really was just as Aisha had said, Yuma had ‶mana″.
”Let Mitaka use his magic.”
Aisha’s words echoed in Kanzaki’s head over and over again.
